Day 1 -- Arrival day at the Seeing Eye

Hello all,

Great news, the Amtrak trip by train went amazingly well. It is amazing how easy it was versus flying. I was at the school in Morristown, New Jersey by 10:30 this morning.
It is worth noting here that to some of you, the facts I will pass along won't matter or make sense in regards to my training. To my friends who are fellow dog guide users, they will enjoy these facts. Bare with me, you will probably learn something amongst my posts.
Kris Schmidt is my instructor. She is an amazingly nice person and has many years of experience training dogs and people. I think that the class will be a great learning experience with her as my instructor. Also in this class as instructors are (some of which I don't know the last name of at the moment) Chris Mattoon, John Bertram, Kaelyn, and Nicole.
Today was a pretty relaxed day. We did a quick Juno walk; for those of you who don't know what that is, the instructor plays a fake dog named Juno by holding the other end of the harness with their hand as we walk to simulate a dog. This helps them decide the type temperment, speed, pull, etc. of dog we will need.
I took a knap for a good bit of the afternoon seeing as I went to bed around 1:30 AM and got up at 4:00 AM last night. We had an introductory lecture and received some initial equipment.
Tomorrow we get to sleep in since there is no dog to take care of yet. We don't get up until 7:00 AM. After breakfast we will go into town and do more simulated Juno walks. In the afternoon the instructors will bring dogs in for us to interact with to help judge our ability to control certain dogs with different temperments. Tomorrow night will be down time (no lecture) since the super bowl will be on.
Anyways, about all the excitement here with no dog. I will write again tomorrow evening!
