Day 2 - Juno walks and assessment!

Hello all,

Today was rather uneventful. Right after breakfast, we went into town to do Juno walks with Kris, the instructor. It was relatively nice weather, a high of 38; by the time it was my turn, there was only a little ice still on the sidewalks. It was quite amusing to do my Juno walk, Kris had to practicly run to simulate the speed of the dog. She is rather short so keeping up with the pace I want was rather difficult. I like an ultrafast dog that pulls into the harness like a horse. We discussed my needs and expectations for a dog; I continued to communicate with her that I have no breed or sex restrictions, I just want the best dog for me. I want a dog that is very well behaved, who ignores other dogs no matter how foolish the other dog is acting, and who can do amazing work no matter the situation. She says she has the perfect dog to meet my needs--of course that is all that is said so I guess we will see tomorrow!
After lunch we got the opportunity to interact with dogs. These dogs remain nameless to prevent people bonding with these dogs. These dogs may or may not be placed in class tomorrow. My class of four got to see three dogs, a German shepherd, a golden/lab mix, and a yellow lab. We did some basic obedience but mainly interacted with the dogs while the instructor observed.
The rest of the evening was basicly free time. They had a pizza party to watch the super bowl; I went and had pizza but couldn't care less about watching the game so came back and did some stuff online. Tomorrow will be the big day; We wake up at 6:00 AM EST to start the day. Right after breakfast, we will go into town for one last Juno walk. Around 10:00 all instructors will go into a closed-door meeting to make decisions. At 1:00 PM EST dogs will start to be handed out one person at a time. This can be a long, drawn out process. My goal will be to get some initial info on here in the afternoon.
Actual training with the dog will start Tuesday morning. It is a fast paced training process with our first solo trip with the dog scheduled for Saturday. Instruction with interspersed solo trips will be mixed in over the remainder of class.
I will keep you up to date as soon as I can. I will see you tomorrow with a dog!
